The inspiration for this piece comes from the theme of paradox. I wanted to take the familiar and distort it in a new and creative way. The original concept I came up with was to design brooches that could be worn to function as a necklace. As you can see, the design allows for an outline of a necklace to appear, despite the fact that they are not linked together in anyway. However, in the process of designing the piece, I decided to link the brooches together to make the brooch necklace concept more apparent. The overall message I wanted to impart was that jewellery does not have to fall neatly into specific categories, but can rather be open to new functions.
